**WD My Passport/My Book External Drive Invalid Password/Forgotten Password Resolution** If your WD My Passport or My Book external drive displays an "Invalid password" message after entering the wrong password five times, follow these steps to resolve the issue: 1. **Drive Test Failures:** If the drive has errors or has failed, replace it if the warranty has not expired. 2. **Test Drive for Errors:** Refer to Answer ID 12452: Check Drive for Errors or Failure on Windows and macOS for instructions. 3. **Try entering the password five more times**: If you're still unable to access your drive, proceed with caution. 4. **Insert the drive into the computer again**. 5. **Disconnect the drive from the computer**. 6. **Safe Eject the drive from the computer**. 7. **Disconnect the drive from the computer and retry the password attempts**: Be aware that once you initiate the process, ALL THE DATA ON THE DRIVE WILL BE LOST. Important Notes: * Entering an incorrect password will display an "Invalid password" message. * Exceeding the maximum of 5 password attempts will result in a "5 Incorrect Attempts" message. * The Erase drive process is **Data Destructive** and cannot be undone. * You can still use and reformat the drive by clicking the Erase button. * WD Technical Support cannot provide a new password or alternative method to access encrypted data. * If you forget your password, the files on the drive are inaccessible. * There is no "forgot password" option to reset the password. * If you forget your password, the information stored on the hard drive cannot be retrieved. * A failed drive or drive with file system or media errors can result in failed access. **WD Security Password Protection:** The WD Security password protection uses 256-bit AES encryption.
